My Idea Lab

As my kids’ book and animation career has gotten busier and busier, I’ve continued creating one-off art pieces and image series simply to keep my visual juices flowing, without the pressure of building a full story around them. These self-directed pieces are where I explore new ideas, colors, textures, compositions, and off-beat concepts. This collection represents just a small sample of the thousands I’ve created over the years. This work is a wellspring of energy that fuels everything else: books, animation projects, commissions, and new directions I never see coming. It even feeds the “Fun & Games” section of this very website. It keeps me experimenting, evolving, and having fun—like a scientist in a laboratory! I mean…arts and sciences are related, right?

So you could call this part of my portfolio (eeew, that sounds so dated!), but I prefer to think of it as my idea lab. No pitches, no approvals, no rules. Just me tinkering away in my laboratory in deep thought, experimenting with new ideas, mutating old concepts into cool new forms, and chasing the occasional happy accident. Creativity, problem-solving, and original thinking unite! Enjoy the results!

(2024-Present)

It’s been a busy couple years, with many large, time-consuming projects, but here are a few fresh experiments. There’ll be more to come, you can be sure of it!

(2006-2023)

Some of these began as small experiments before evolving into book projects, an animated short, commissions, and other paying projects!
