The Rest of the Work!

During my children’s book and animation career (2001–present), I’ve continued creating one-off art pieces and image series as a way to keep my creative juices flowing—without the pressure of having to write a story around them. This work is a test lab for new ideas, colors, textures, compositions, and even silly concepts. Every piece is built from my own original ideas and characters. This collection represents only a small portion of the thousands of images I’ve created over the years.

Out of this work comes all of my book and animation projects, along with any outside commissions. Art buyers, editors, and creative people don’t just want to see how you draw, they want to see how you think and this is how I think. This process has been essential in keeping my work fresh, energized, and evolving, instead of circling the same style or theme again and again. More than anything, it keeps me curious, experimenting, and excited to discover what might happen next.

This isn’t a traditional portfolio meant to get work in a direct, targeted way. It’s a showcase of what I do when I’m not working to a manuscript or solving a specific problem. This is my playtime. No one looking over my shoulder, no pitches to make, and no approvals to chase. Just me alone with my thoughts, entertaining myself, following off-beat ideas wherever they lead, experimenting nonstop, and having a great time creating. I chose not to date these pieces because, hopefully, it will make them feel connected to the same internal creative source and exist a little outside of time.
